Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thursday was a challenging day for me at school because I am afraid of thunderstorms. Once I start to hear the thunder and see the flashes of lightening, I am ready to seek my bed and pull up the covers! However, when I am at school and the principal, I must work through my fears.
I don’t recall what made me have this fear. It might have been the summer when Saco River Campground flooded and we had to evacuate, pulling our trailers out within a few hours. Or it might have been the time that my dad and I got stuck on 293 in a huge thunderstorm. That evening, when I was about ten, I remember pulling over on the side of the highway and my dad was giving me a “play-by-play” of the amazing colors within the lightening and it felt like the thunder was sitting in the backseat of the car!
So on these days, I must put on my brave face because I have students that stop me in the hall and talk to me at lunch to share their own worries about the storms. I try to reassure them that we are fine in the building and everything will be OK. But deep down inside, I feel exactly the same!
I am hoping for the sun to come out soon!
Have a great weekend!
