December 22 & 23

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At our first faculty meeting of the year, a few faculty members asked if they could meet and try to develop a special, unique, and educational opportunity for the two days before Christmas break. I was delighted!

In working with our desire to allow more opportunities for students to work collaboratively with other students in different grades, increase our parent involvement, and continue to build our positive school culture, this committee has developed a Book Study of Author Jan Brett, a Family Snack Party and Sing-A-long.

On Monday, 12/22, and the beginning of Tuesday, 12/23, students will be organized into mixed K-5 groups. These groups will travel to different classrooms and will be introduced to one of Jan Brett’s books. After listening to the story, staff will lead a discussion on various story elements, and using teamwork, create a craft. We will continue with our snack, lunch and lunch recess routine.

Around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 12/23, as a school community, we will make our way, via school busses, over to the New Hampton School’s Dining Hall. Instead of having individual classroom parties (as many of our families have more than one child in our building), we are going to come together as an entire school community to have a “SNACK PARTY” and “SCHOOL SING- A-LONG”. Through the generous donation of families, PTO and NHCS staff, we will be treated to delicious, creative, healthy snacks. After we’ve had time for eating and socialization, we will sing some popular holiday songs.

It is our hope that in providing families with this information now, parents and family members will be able to join us for our time at the New Hampton School! We would love for you to meet us in the Dining Hall from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

I am looking forward to trying this out and you never know---we might just be starting a new tradition here at NHCS! Attached to this is your child’s permission slip to ride the bus to and from the New Hampton School.

Have a great weekend!
