New Hampton Community School would like to honor our veterans at a school-wide assembly on Thursday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m.  Please help us find our local heroes, as we would like to invite them to our celebration.  If you know of a veteran, please contact us at the school.  All are welcome to attend this special assembly.  On this date, we invite all students, if possible, to wear clothing that is red, white, and/or blue in order to help show support for our veterans.

News from the PTO:  We are sponsoring a Fun Run to be held on Monday, October 21 (rain date, 10/22).  The Fun Run will take place during school hours with the following times scheduled:  10:00 a.m. for students in kindergarten, first, and second grades; 10:45 a.m. for students in grades three, four, and five.  Information and pledge sheets have been sent home with the students.

Picture Retakes:  The photographers from LifeTouch will be here on Monday, October 28, for retakes.  They will be here from 10:00-11:00.   If your child was absent on the day pictures were taken, you may send in the photo envelope, along with the money, on October 28. (Extra envelopes are available in the office.)  If you would like to have your child’s picture retaken, the package of photos that was previously sent home must be returned in its entirety.  Please keep the class picture.  Students in Mrs. Kilmer’s and Mr. McCann’s classes are scheduled to have their class pictures retaken.

From the Health Office: If you would like your child to receive a free influenza vaccine in school on Wednesday, October 30, please sign the consent form that was sent home and return both the yellow and white copies to us by Thursday, October 24. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the vaccine, please feel free to call Mrs. Morrison, our school nurse, at 744-3221.

Sales for the Yankee Candle Fundraiser will begin on Friday, October 25.  This is our annual school fundraiser that helps pay for field trips and assemblies.  The brochures and order forms will go home with the students next Friday, and order forms and money are due back no later than Friday, November 8.  Checks should be made payable to NHCS, and delivery of items will be 2-4 weeks from Yankee Candle’s receipt of orders.

Our annual Story Hour is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 5, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to come in their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animals to hear the stories. Snacks will be served and admission is free.  As part of this annual event, our NHCS fifth graders, along with Garden Clubs throughout the State, are accepting donations of new, warm, and flame retardant children’s pajamas of any size.  Donations of pajamas may be made between now and the evening of Tuesday, November 5.  These pajamas are distributed throughout the State of NH to homeless children, orphanages, and shelters.  The Pond & Peak Reading Council will then match every pair of pajamas collected with a new children’s book.  Our fifth grade class has been participating in this program for over five years.  If you would like more information regarding this program, please go to their website at www.pajamaprogram.org.

Mrs. Marcotte, our ICT teacher, is looking for volunteers to help out in the library.  If you have any time, even a half hour here and there, she could use help in reshelving books.  If interested, please give her a call.  She’ll set up a time when it’s convenient for you to come in and see what needs to be done.

Share Your Photos for the 2013-2014 Yearbook:  Students are gearing up for class parties, field trips and other fun activities. We need your help to capture those moments for this year’s NHCS yearbook. You can upload your photos at any time to http://nhcs.picaboo.com. Please make sure your camera and camera phone settings are set to the highest resolution for best print quality.  Nora Foster, our yearbook coordinator, is looking for volunteers to coordinate photos, yearbook ad sales and yearbook layouts. Contact her directly at norafoster1@gmail.com.

Now that autumn is creeping in and we are experiencing chilly mornings, we ask that you remind your children to dress warmly for the weather.  Students head out to recess and physical education classes early in the morning, when the ground is often still wet.

Hannaford Helps Schools is a program that provides NHCS an opportunity to raise funds for our student activity account.  The program began on September 1 and will run through December 1.  When certain items (listed on the flyers that have gone home) are purchased from Bristol Shop & Save, you will receive “school dollars” that may be deposited in the box marked “New Hampton Community School” which you’ll find toward the front of the store.  If you shop at any of the other Hannaford stores in the area, and receive “school dollars”, please send them in with your child and we will bring them over to the Bristol store in order for our school to receive credit.

Throughout the school year, we will be “Capturing CARES” and recognizing students who have been caught modeling our mission statement, “NHCS CARES” (Character, Achievement, Responsibility, Excellence, Spirit).  During Wednesday’s lunch time, the following students were recognized:

Mika Austin - Responsibility & Excellence

Evan Foster - Character, Responsibility, Excellence

Brady MacLean - Character

Caitlyn Mitchell - Character & Responsibility

Cailyn Richard - Excellence

Brynn Sidelinger - Excellence

Quinn vanLingen - Excellence

Have a wonderful weekend!
