Hi.  If you are looking for material to include in any parent notices/emails, please consider adding a section about the special education parent survey.  If you have space to include something similar to the following, that would be great!

Does your child receive special education services? If yes, it is time for the annual Parent Involvement Survey being conducted by the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education.

The state is conducting this important survey to learn more about how parents who have students receiving special education services feel about the school’s efforts to involve parents in improving services and results for their children. These opinions are very important, and we hope you will share them if this survey is relevant to you.

If your child received special education services this year, you should have received the survey in your home mailbox. You can fill out the survey and mail it back using the postage-paid envelope that is included, or go towww.NHParent.com and complete the survey online.

As many of you know, our Destination Imagination team, The Fishers, recently qualified to represent New Hampshire at the 2014 Global Destination Imagination competition from May 20-May 25 in Knoxville, TN.  In order to participate in this great opportunity, each family is working to raise $2,000.  A spaghetti dinner will be held on Friday, April 18, to help raise money for this trip.  The dinner will be held at 5:30, and all are welcome.  The cost is $8.00 per adult and $5.00 per child, aged 10 and under.  Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 16, by calling us at 744-3221 or e-mailing Mrs. Austin at saustin@sau4.org.

NHCS Kindergarten Connection has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 7.  If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten this August, and live in the Town of New Hampton, please complete the cherry-colored form that was sent home and return it to us as soon as possible.  If you know of a child who will be of kindergarten age who lives in New Hampton, please ask the parent to give us a call.  Paperwork, along with a time indicated for you and your child to come in on May 7, will be mailed out towards the end of April.  If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call.

We have kicked off our One Book/One School annual event.  This year’s selection is James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.  Books have been distributed to all families and staff, along with the book-related packets.  A suggested timetable for reading is included in the packet, as well as trivia questions for each week.  Students may turn in their families’ responses on Friday morning, depositing them in the box located on the stage.  All entries will be eligible for a weekly prize, and there will be a grand prize drawing at the conclusion of this event.  Happy Reading!

Mrs. Marcotte, our ICT teacher, is looking for volunteers to help out in the library.  If you have any time, even a half hour here and there, she could use help in reshelving books.  If interested, please give her a call.  She’ll set up a time when it’s convenient for you to come in and see what needs to be done.

Throughout the school year, we will be “Capturing CARES” and recognizing students and staff who have been caught modeling our mission statement, “NHCS CARES” (Character, Achievement, Responsibility, Excellence, Spirit).  During Wednesday’s lunch time, the following students and staff were recognized:

Share Your Photos for the 2013-2014 Yearbook:  Students are gearing up for class parties, field trips and other fun activities. We need your help to capture those moments for this year’s NHCS yearbook. You can upload your photos at any time to http://nhcs.picaboo.com.  If you come by the school and plan on taking pictures of a school event, pick up one of the business cards that Nora Foster, our yearbook coordinator, recently had printed.  The cards contain photo upload information. Make sure your camera and camera phone settings are set to the highest resolution for best print quality.  Nora is looking for volunteers to coordinate photos, yearbook ad sales and yearbook layouts. Contact her directly at norafoster1@gmail.com.
